Unveiled – Citroen’s new DS4

First details of the latest in Citroen’s swish new DS line – the DS4 – have been revealed.

DS4 is the second model in Citroen’s trendy DS range

Cloaked in sleek, coupé-esque lines, the five-seat, five-door Citroen DS4 follows in the tyre-tracks of the DS3 launched last year and is claimed to combine a blend of “creativity, dynamism, exclusivity and versatility”.

In practice this means a graceful, slightly raised (Citroen says “taut”) silhouette, the exterior enhanced with understated use of chrome and the interior benefiting from “premium” cabin materials including leather seats. Other notable features are a large, panoramic windscreen and – in a nod to the coupé-like lines – door handles cleverly integrated into the body’s lines on the rear doors.

More power for the Panamera – at a price

New £11,000 Powerkit gives Porsche’s Panamera Turbo a 190mph top speed.

Sport Design Package complete with 20in wheels can be fitted to the Panamera from October

Porsche Panamera Turbo customers can now pay for a higher top speed – and more acceleration – with the newly-launched “Powerkit”.

Costing £11,118, the performance package raises engine output by 40bhp to 533bhp, but you’ll need a good stopwatch to spot the difference. According to the Germany sportscar manufacturer the 0-62mph time will drop by 0.1 seconds compared to the standard Panamera, enabling the car to reach the magic benchmark from rest in 3.9 seconds.

Top speed (unlikely to be reached by anyone while driving in the UK) is increased from 188 mph to 190 mph, while the engine still returns 24.6mpg, the same as that of the 493bhp version. There’s good news for existing Panamera Turbo owners too; the kit can be retro-fitted, from November.

Honda CR-Z Achieves Top Euro NCAP Overall Safety Rating

The Honda CR-Z has been rated one of Europe‘s safest cars, following on from the success of the Honda Insight, according to the new independent crash testing results from Euro NCAP.

Euro NCAP’s rating scheme focuses on the vehicle’s overall safety performance which gives consumers an easy to understand single score. The system considers occupant protection in frontal, side, pole and rear impacts, child protection, pedestrian protection and the availability of driver aids. The Honda CR-Z has been awarded the maximum 5-star rating.

The new rating scheme, introduced in February 2009, uses a weighted score, combining many aspects of a car’s safety performance: adult (50%), child (20%) and pedestrian (20%) protection assessment results with the availability of safety assistance devices (10%). To qualify for inclusion, safety assistance devices (VSA for Honda) must be fitted as standard across 90% of the EU 27 2010 model range.
