More power for the Panamera – at a price

New £11,000 Powerkit gives Porsche’s Panamera Turbo a 190mph top speed.

Sport Design Package complete with 20in wheels can be fitted to the Panamera from October

Porsche Panamera Turbo customers can now pay for a higher top speed – and more acceleration – with the newly-launched “Powerkit”.

Costing £11,118, the performance package raises engine output by 40bhp to 533bhp, but you’ll need a good stopwatch to spot the difference. According to the Germany sportscar manufacturer the 0-62mph time will drop by 0.1 seconds compared to the standard Panamera, enabling the car to reach the magic benchmark from rest in 3.9 seconds.

Top speed (unlikely to be reached by anyone while driving in the UK) is increased from 188 mph to 190 mph, while the engine still returns 24.6mpg, the same as that of the 493bhp version. There’s good news for existing Panamera Turbo owners too; the kit can be retro-fitted, from November.
A “Sport Design Package”, new 20in Sport alloy wheels and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus have also been introduced as options for the Panamera. The Sport Design Package includes a unique body-colour nose with wider black air intake grilles and separate side skirts. From October, the Sport Design Package will be available for £2,516.

Other new Panamera options include a three-spoke sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles, available in combination with the Porsche (don’t say it in a hurry) Doppelkupplungsgetriebe PDK gearbox, for £277.

Porsche says that Panamera sales worldwide have now topped 23,000, with the newer V6 model showing early success.

  1. Its as fast as it is ugly! Would almost make the perfect alternative for an uber sedan if that rear end wasn’t on it. If only they followed Aston’s execution of the hatched rear…
