YouTube has added a new section for on-demand movies

YouTube has also announced a new partnership with http://www.blinkbox.com, the British online film and TV aggregator. The site will be making 165 films available as part of the new Movies section, with titles including The Addiction, which was nominated for Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival, Dark Side Of The Sun, starring Brad Pitt and Death Train, starring Pierce Brosnan.

Other films available will include Cathy Come Home, the film that led to the founding of homelessness charity Shelter, Bollywood hits. YouTube also says it will offer “cult classics, such as The Clan Of The Cave Bear (Daryl Hannah as a Neanderthal) and hidden gems like Loved (Sean Penn), a drama about physics in Oxford.”

Donagh O’Malley, YouTube’s Head of Video Partnerships, said: “This is one of many efforts to ensure that people can find all the different kinds of video they want to see, from bedroom vlogs and citizen journalism reports to full-length films and TV shows. This is a first step.”

YouTube hopes that the move will complement is catch-up TV site, www.youtube.com/shows, which includes full length programmes from Channel 4 and Five, such as Peep Show, The Inbetweeners, and Fifth Gear.
